In a world of multiple transactions and agents and ever-increasing technological complexity, the importance of solutions that ensure trust between counterparties and eliminate abuse can be overemphasized. In this context, blockchain is one of the key drivers and resources for smart city development. It enables fast and secure transactions without an external centralizing administrator and has a myriad of applications – finance, digital registry, taxation, logistics, voting systems, transportation, and energy.

• Can blockchain be used to ensure transparency in municipal governance and, as a result, increase citizens’ trust?
